🎯 Objective

What is Objective?

In simple terms, the goal is the place you want to go.

It is a statement that describes what you want to achieve by the end of this period. It is concise, abstract, does not include technical terminology, does not need to be quantified, and allows us to understand at a glance where this goal will lead us.

Alignment of goals and vision

In the introduction chapter of OKR, we briefly explained what a vision is. When setting our OKR goals, we must carefully consider whether our goals have a direct or indirect relationship with our vision.

The premise of the goal

The premise of the goal

The premise of a goal is the basis for setting the goal. Goals are not created out of thin air or on a whim; they must be derived after careful consideration and justification of their reasonableness and their relation to one's vision. The more carefully thought out the goals are, the more likely they are to be achieved.

The premise of a goal consists of motivation and feasibility.

The premise of the goal is the basis for setting the goal; goals are not produced out of thin air or arbitrarily. Goals must be derived after careful consideration and analysis of their rationality and relevance to one's vision. The more carefully a goal is considered and established, the more likely it is to be achieved.

The premise of the goal consists of motivation and feasibility.

Motivation

Motivation is a very complex term in psychology. You can gain a more detailed understanding of it through some reference materials. In Vision, we might simply understand it as:

  1. Why do you want to achieve this goal (intrinsic motivation)

  2. What drives you to achieve this goal (extrinsic motivation)

feasibility

feasibility

In simple terms, feasibility is why you have the ability to achieve this goal.

While goals need to be challenging, it is also undesirable if they are completely beyond one’s ability. Take a counterexample: for an average worker, "earning a hundred million" is clearly not a feasible small goal; it may be a long-term vision.

In simple terms, feasibility is why you have the ability to achieve this goal.

While the goal should be challenging, it is also not advisable if it is completely beyond your capabilities. For example, for an average worker, "earning 100 million" is clearly not a feasible small goal; it might be a long-term vision.

💡 Tip

In Vis, you can list multiple motivations and feasibilities for each of your goals. It is also recommended that everyone write as complete explanations of motivations and feasibilities as possible to demonstrate that your motivations or feasibilities are genuine. In the future, we will also conduct more in-depth research and optimization of the prerequisites for goals.

The relationship between objectives and key results.

It is obvious that the objective relative to the key results is a more abstract concept. The objective itself is not quantified specifically, but in OKR, the objective is indirectly quantified through the quantification of key results. From this perspective, the realization of the objective is a diversified, multidimensional result, and each key result under the objective is a variety of conditions that need to be met to achieve that objective.

For example, the objective: 【Make the physical condition healthier】, to achieve this objective, it is necessary to approach it from multiple directions, such as:

  1. Reaching a healthy weight

  2. Improving physical fitness

  3. Adjusting sleep time

Based on these directions, along with the quantified results, we can easily formulate key results that align with this objective.
